KUZIKO Talk Event 2nd Edition ‘‘raising awareness among young people about Sexual and Reproductive Health ’’

The KUZIKO Talk Series Initiative aims to bring young people together and provide them with a space for exchanging and sharing experience and knowledge on life skills. This program takes the form of series of dialogues in which young people are brought together around a panel of experts who have already made their mark and they retrace their journey, their motivation, their passion, the challenges encountered.

Through these discussions, young people are motivated and enlightened and ask questions. Each activity focuses on a topic that meets the needs of young people and the event is prepared by the young people from the beginning up to the end.

On April 24, 2022, Tabitha Community in Action organized an activity to raise awareness among young people about sexual and reproductive health. This was the second edition of the Kuziko Talk event under the theme “Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health, What Behavior of a Young Visionary”. The event main speakers were the Sexologist Bény NDAYISHIMIYE (CEO of TWUBAKE) and Dr Divine IGIRANEZA (ABUBEF Burundi).

After the presentations, the young people had the opportunity to ask questions related to Sexual and Reproductive Health during a Questions-Answers exchange which saw the intervention of Dr BAYUBAHE Jean Damascène, the Chief Medical Officer of the Health District of Gitega, Midwife HARUSHIMANA Augustin (Legal Representative of Midwife in Action’s Association – MAA VYARA UHEKE) and Rev-Pastor NTAHUBA Parfaite (Coordinator of Friends Women’s Association).

From right to left, Apostle MADI, Dr Divine, the Sexologist Beny NDAYISHIMIYE, Rev-Pastor Parfaite and Dr Damascene the Gitega Youth President and Medical Doctor.

By answering the questions, the speakers shared their experiences to complete the presentations and provide more insightful information for these questions.

Despite the changes noted in the behavior of young people and some progress in access to care, there are still major gaps that have negative consequences on the SRH of young people. The analysis of the questions raised by young people during the event confirms the need to fight misinformation and rumors, to educate young people about SRH and inform them about medical care if necessary. To this end, series of sessions on Sexual and Reproductive Health will be organized in order to meet the discovered needs of young people.

During the event, we launched a campaign to collect clothes and food to give to vulnerable communities in May 2022 and it was an opportunity to award the Best Volunteer of the Year 2021 and award a certificate of appreciation to ABAREZI Don Diomede for his endless efforts and support in carrying out the initiatives of the Organization. Both were gifted with the cosmetics products from Maison ISAN led by Isaïe NDAYIHIMBAZE.

KUZIKO Talk 2nd Edition saw the participation of various distinguished guests, namely the Representatives of Youth Organizations (MAA-VYARA UHEKE, REJADH, FootBall Helps Association, Esther Generation Army, etc.), the National Council of Youth in Commune MUHA, companies and Cabinets (TWUBAKE, Maison ISAN, etc.).

The event was closed by the performance of various Gospel artists such as T.S.S, Mr Key, KCK HUHA, KIKI-G, Dany Worshiper, Bellardo Worshiper. A second part of the event was found necessary to answer to the questions and keep educating and informing the youth  about SRH.

We would like to warmly thank the young people for their massive presence, the speakers and speakers for your participation in this great event, the distinguished guests for having responded to our invitation and the Organizing KUZIKO Team for their involvement.

Dear Participants, Speakers and special guests, your presence played a role in the success of this event. Thank you again and see you very soon at a new event on SRH. Stay tuned.
